Satin fabrics are also great for interior furnishing, upholstery and bed sheets. Satin fabrics are luxurious materials that are woven from slightly twisted yarns and then run through hot cylinders. This creates finished fabrics that are shiny on one side and dull on the other. Prized for their luster, satin fabrics have a very sleek, smooth texture and have been used to create undergarments, bridal gowns, formal gowns and bedding since the 14th century.
